Don't Waste Time Deciding Who Deserves It.

One of the great legacies left to me from my former pastor and one of my greatest mentors is a commitment to service without condition. Whether or not I really live it out is to be determined but I cannot deny my conviction that it is not worth too much time figuring out who is worthy or deserving of help and who is not. We should help everyone and let God sort out who was deserving and who was not deserving. This is not just a personal reality reserved for private service but a political reality which should effect how we vote and which policies we advocate. Too often we throw the baby out with the bath water. We neglect those in need out of fear that someone might "take advantage of the system." Someone might waste our money or waste our time. We need to be ok with that. We need to sacrifice for the ones in greatest need. Though efficiency shouldn't totally be ignored, if it means giving all we have to 100 so that 1 who is truly in need will benefit, so be it.

“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.”
