Faith Defined by hope
What is hope? Hope precedes faith, hope precedes repentance, hope is the question to which the Kingdom of god is the answer. Hope.
Hope is a vision for the world, a vision that penetrates beyond injustice, suffering, and the curse of sin. Hope sees past the world as it is, to the world that is to come, the world as it should be. Hope sees beyond political mischief and economic systems as they are, and sees something altogether different from what any State would think to imagine. Hope is a lens which, once it is worn, overwhelms us and takes hold of us until, by faith, it is the only thing we can actually call true. In faith, hope becomes truth. Truth becomes a word that no longer fits our objective reality. Truth becomes something that can no longer be ascribed to the world as it is. Truth becomes a shoe that no longer fits the foot of any political candidate. Through this lens of hope which is made alive in faith, truth becomes a garment that really only fits right when it is worn by an invisible God, a king of a Kingdom that is truly not of this world and is never truly made manifest in the systems and patterns of the world and its leaders.
Hebrews 11:1 might say... Faith is the substance of hope, that vision for the world which says "there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order has passed away" (Rev. 21:4), and it is the evidence of things for which there is no evidence.
With faith, hope becomes reality and everything else is fake.
