Often I find myself talking alot but never doing. Do you ever find yourself in this rut? We can talk about prayer and why it's important but when it comes down to doing it we fail. we have bible studies about love but once we leave the room our lives become obsorbed again and we don't even talk to others. Jesus said something very powerful about the religouse leaders of his day. He said
"‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away.
Their worship is a farce, for they replace God’s commands with their own man-made teachings.’”
This is actually a quote from Isaiah. (“These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away. And their worship of me amounts to nothing more than human laws learned by rote.") See we often are so worried about what we say. we bcome so worried that what we say will sound good and somehow show off that we are passionate about God. What we should be concerned about is where our heart are.
Jesus said "you cannot be fruitful apart from me."John 15:4. see, what we say, it's a waste of time if our hearts are "far away."
I find myself in this rut often, But my perspective is always brodened before long. I remember that I am not here to be a big talker I am here to be a doer.
"14Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? 15For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved 16and say, 'Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!' and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? 17Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?"James 2:14.
I don't want to say "be clothed" I want to do the clothing. I don't want to say "we should pray" and never pray. I don't want to say "pursue Jesus" and never do it at all. I don't want my lips to honor God but by heart to be far away. Rob Bell once said "God does not want the empty ritual. God wants our hearts." I want to be intimate with God, I want to do more than know about God I want to Know God. I want to "do" what I "say."
