God of all history, you threaten us with your salvation. We know not what the future holds for the last word has not been spoken. But however we may wish to live, however we may struggle amongst ourselves and work to accumulate for ourselves whatever we might salvage before the ship sinks, you threaten us with a future that does not end with destruction, where our treasure is not silver nor gold but simply love and covenant with you. All of history is yours and in you history's end has visited us, an end not of death but of life and resurrection. Jesus, the true end, has visited us in our present darkness and has offered the light of life to illuminate the darkness of death.
Make us vulnerable now to the threat of your salvation so that we may be today what we will be tomorrow. Amen.
