Quote From an Outstanding UCC Man
"People notice peacemakers because they dress funny. We know how the people who make war dress - in uniforms and medals, or in computers and clipboards, or in absoluteness, severity, greed, and cynicism. But the peacemaker is dressed in righteousness, justice, and faithfulness - dressed for the work that is to be done"_Walter BrueggemannWhat a beautiful prayer from Brueggemann whose roots, as I just learned today, are in the same denomination of which I am now a part--The United Church of Christ. It's not that I'm not proud to be in the UCC but I have, in the past, questioning if it is the best place to be. I usually associate it with great social activism but also with an unfortunate theological ambiguity. It was encouraging to learn that one such scholar and theologian as Walter Brueggemann belongs to one such denomination.
May we all dress ourselves and our hearts in the clothes of the estranged and subjugated Jesus, in the clothes of the Kingdom of God not of any man's kingdom, in the clothes of righteousness, justice, and faithfulness, and in the white robes of martyrdom.
