Barclay on Temptation

William Barclay on the Temptation of Jesus (Mark 1:12-13):
"God was saying to him (Jesus), 'take my love to men; love them till you die for them; conquer them by the unconquerable love even if you finish up upon a cross.' Satan was saying to Jesus, 'use your power bo blast men. Obliterate your enemies; with the world by might and power and bloodshed.' God said to Jesus, 'set up a reign of love.' Satan said to Jesus, 'set up a dictatorship of force.' Jesus had to choose that day between the way of God and the way of the Adversary of God."
