Rush Limbaugh on Capitalism
Thanks to Andrew for posting this.
"No, no, it's not. If you believe in the capitalist system, then you have to erase from your whole worldview what does somebody need. It's not about need. Capitalism is not about need. It's about providing; it's about growing; it's about opportunity; it is about doing whatever you want to do." _Rush Limbaugh on CapitalismRush hits the nail on the head (for once) with this quote. This is why Capitalism can be so damaging to our imagination and this is why it has a way of infecting our perspective and paralyzing us from really being able to see and respond to the need in the world. It can corner us and trap us in its comforts if we accept its conscienceless imagination. It's not that I think any other system would be any better, it's that we all need to remember that our faith is not in capitalism, communism, or any other "ism", it's in the Kingdom of God--the rescue mission which not only sees but feels the need of the world and responds redemptivly to it. "Capitalism is not about need" but the world is in great need and we have the means to meet it with love, justice, and the hope of jubilee.
If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs. _Deuteronomy 15:7-8
