New York Sends Homeless Packing
Fishy at best...
Is it ok to send people away even if you think it's to another option... isn't it still making people out to be "problems"? and then pushing the "problem" onto someone else?
When the disciples tried to send people away, Jesus said "you feed them"... (Mark 6:37)

"Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand."
I think the text maintains the power of Jesus' call, "You give them something to eat." I don't think Jesus ever really says, "don't worry about the poor. Go ahead and send them away and I'll take care of them."
What really needs to be done is to find a way for the unemployed to find work. In this economy there is no easy solution.
The situation with the homeless is no easy way to tackle with, but if there is a way we can provide for the homeless to work whether for an hour or a day's wage we should provide them fair or generous wages. Or even better, if they can be trained for a trade that they really enjoy, they can use it to earn their keep.
